In terms of your below question, I think it is worth having a discussion with David Stoms (the new CAM), Susan, and myself on whether another quantitative analysis of benefits of this sort is needed. I could argue either direction, and want to discuss how we (CEC) and Pyregence might use this type of analysis. I have attached the analysis for those who might not have seen it. I will look to Pyregence and David Stoms to facilitate setting up this conversation. I think it could just occur during a normal check-in meeting. We will review this and get back to you with revisions and responses to your remaining questions. We have one workflow direction question for you, which I’ll pose here but let you and Shane discuss when you both have time (not urgent). Would you like to see more quantitative analysis of benefits like this? Once we incorporate wildfire science advances into the near-term model (closer to the end of the project) I had planned to quantify a PSPS-related benefit. But if you don’t think it’s necessary I can divert that effort to some of our more immediate project needs. Best wishes, Mariko *** Q: (re: “support tools as of 2020”) Are those listed anywhere? I am curious what was considered. MGA: Here we are referring to the operationalized version of Technosylva’s Wildfire Risk Reduction Model (WRRM-Ops). Q: Were you able to talk/interview a dispatcher to understand their decision making process? MGA: Unfortunately no. At the time when we reviewed the IOU mitigation plans and interviewed the IOUs this was identified as a mitigation tool. But the utility representatives didn’t have any detail on how this is implemented in real time. We constructed this case study based on our best understanding of how an emergency crew dispatcher would make decisions in real time with the objective to first protect crew safety, then to minimize the financial implications of infrastructure damage. Q: Does this include inflation for the 2040 timeframe? This is expressed in constant real dollars. I’ll add that as a clarification. Thank you! I have added a handful of comments. I think it would be worth incorporating the fact sheet info developed in this deliverable into the language on the energize innovation site for this project. Shane you should have the ability to make updates to the project write-up on the site. The case study identified is interesting and will be a useful addition to the final report benefits section. I had a few minor questions throughout. I am also curious if PyreCast could be used to inform go/no decisions for setting prescribed fires and if the reduced data latency would be critical for those decisions. Thanks! Hi Alex – Attached please find a .pdf and .docx versions of the Task 6 product deliverable “Near-term Risk Forecast Cost Benefit Analysis Fact Sheet” organized following the CEC reporting template we’ve been using. In addition, I’ve included a .pdf of just the factsheet, formatted according to a factsheet provided to Mariko from CEC. Please review and let us know if we’re hitting the mark with respect to your expectations for the product.
